Clay St Cemetery Walk in May
Our May meeting was held at the Clay Street Cemetery, a repeat of last year (2022). We walked the cemetery with many guests, talking about select graves and the people we have researched. We had great weather to enjoy the talk. Our guests were different members of the community, some being descendants, some in high school, retirees, and history buffs.
The Clay Street Cemetery Commission is in the process of researching the people buried there as well as upgrading the markers destroyed over time, or have gone missing altogether. Work has been done for many years, with this year being the most updates so far. The walk from May looks different than it does now, as 147 markers have been placed, along with crosses marking unknown graves. Another walk will definitely be held in the future!
